A little bit about Beyond the Glass Adventure Tours

Beyond the Glass Adventure Tours is one of Ireland’s youngest activity holiday companies. We have developed three of the best, hiking and cycling tours on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Our ambition is to take you ‘BEYOND THE GLASS’ of your work PC, your phone and the bus window, and immerse you completely into the wonder and beauty of the Irish landscape. We will show you the best of Ireland while delivering the ultimate adventure travel experience.

On our tours you will see some of the most spectacular and scenic places in Ireland, as well as Ireland’s richest historical and cultural sites. All our guides are knowledgeable, experienced and have an appreciation and love for what Ireland is and has to offer. They have a passion for Ireland’s natural beauty, culture and heritage and an understanding of what is required for a successful and enjoyable travel experience.

The Wild Atlantic Way is the longest defined coastal touring route in the world. It stretches for over 2,500km along Ireland’s spectacular western seaboard. We at BEYOND THE GLASS ADVENTURE TOURS have selected the very best parts of the way to include in our tours, offering you the best Adventure Holidays in Ireland.

Our Staff meet the team

James Foley

James Foley

Beyond The Glass Adventure Tours was established by James Foley. James was born and raised on a farm in Aghabullogue, Co. Cork. His passion and love for Ireland was instilled in him from a young age as he travelled with his family the length and breadth of Ireland. His appreciation for Ireland grew further in his adult years as he began to hike Ireland’s Mountains and Cycle along its Wild Atlantic Coast.

James’s previous career, with multi-national pharmaceutical companies, allowed him to travel to some fantastic places across Europe, Africa, Asia and America. While travelling he got to hike and cycle in many wonderful locations.

He has setup BTG Tours to take you “beyond the glass”—the glass of your device, the bus window, and your office PC— for your very own unforgettable Adventure Tour of Ireland.

Sustainability Policy

We have developed our sustainability policy to align with the UNWTO definition of sustainable tourism – “Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”

At Beyond the Glass Adventure Tours, we bring you ‘Beyond the Glass’ – be it the glass of your office window, the glass of the bus windows or the glass of your electronic devise – to enjoy enriching experiences in the outdoors.

In 2023 we continue our journey to becoming a sustainable travel company. We believe small steps and simplicity can lead to big change.

We want every journey we make to have a positive impact on the habitats we travel through and the inhabitants, from the wood mite to the human, we encounter. We will share our passion for the natural world with all who journey with us and it is our hope that those who do will gain a deeper appreciation of the natural world and personal commitment to sustainability.

Our Adventure Tours travel through Ireland’s most scenic locations, particularly along its wild and rugged coastlines and its remote and beautiful mountains. These locations are susceptible to suffering the erosive effect of climate change and the associated weather pattern changes. They are also areas where there may be increased footfall. To alleviate these impacts Beyond the Glass Adventure Tours:

  • Runs all outdoor activities in line with the leave no trace principles.
  • Will where practical, include lesser visited locations in our itineraries.
  • Will favour using accommodation providers who have a sustainability policy in place.

Beyond the Glass is a micro business which delivers a high-quality personalised product.

  • We commit to sourcing ethical produced and environmentally friendly equipment.
  • We commit to moving towards using a more energy efficient tour vehicle.

Our small team live in the communities where we work. We strive to embed the company in the local community and contribute to local schemes which are aligned to our policy.

  • We commit supporting local organisations that support environmentally friendly policies.
  • We will work with local projects that are specifically set up to off-set carbon.
  • We will use our resources to take local community groups on journeys of discovery into the outdoors.
  • We will measure and move to reduce our workplace carbon footprint
  • Will favour using accommodation providers who have a sustainability policy in place.

As we progress on our sustainability journey we will:

  • Commit to reviewing the policy on an annual basis
  • Remain honest and communicate our progress on our website, on email and on our social media channels.
  • Allow you measure our sustainability credentials and hold us to account as you travel with us.
